Concert - Ladies in the Round: Lea Morris, Lynn Hollyfield, Jillian Matundan
Concert - Ladies in the Round: Lea Morris, Lynn Hollyfield, Jillian Matundan
May 2, 2025 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us on Friday, May 2 at 7:30 pm for Ladies in the Round, featuring Lea Morris, Lynn Hollyfield, and Jillian Matundan swapping songs in the intimate setting that is Four Hour Day in Baltimore. Not only are they all award-winning singer-songwriters, all of them are multi-instrumentalists and you never know what will happen. This will be the first time they are gathering in circle - and you are invited!
A three year old with an Afro puffball hairstyle that discovers the power and peace that music can provide, Lea Morris’ origins are in the baptist church of Baltimore. She often draws comparisons to Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell. It’s no wonder, with her warm vocals, insightful lyrics and familiar melodies. However, as Lea’s compositions expand to include looped harmonies, vocal percussion and other elements, it’s clear that her SoulFolk style is unique. Today, she resides in Germany and travels the world sharing songs and experiences to lift hearts and connect communities. She released her newest album, Ordinary Magic, in September 2024.
Blend a powerful singer, crisp acoustic guitar player and a heartfelt observer of the world and you have singer-songwriter, Lynn Hollyfield. Her “indie-folk-pop style” (Leicasterbangs, UK) reflects an infusion of many influences including great jazz artists, such as Ella Fitzgerald, to contemporary influences of John Hiatt, Shawn Colvin and CSNY. The resulting blend~her own voice mingling wit, a silky sweetness and thoughtful reverie to her songwriting and performance. Her newest album, Look Up, was released in May 2024 and is listed as a top Album in June and July and Lynn as a top artists on the Folk Alliance International DJ Charts for June 2024.
A multi-instrumental singer-songwriter, trade unionist, and first-generation Filipina American, Jillian Matundan has delighted audiences with her resonant vocals, acute and relatable observations matched with her unique guitar-style and wicked sense of humor. After a fifteen year hiatus from music, she ventured to local open mics in 2019 and has been on a tear ever since, winning multiple songwriting awards, playing numerous shows, collaborating with musicians on stage and in the studio, and released her debut EP, Hangin' On in 2020. Singing to the Moon, her first full-length album, debuted at No. 6 and Jillian was a top 10 Artist on the FAI Folk Chart in March 2024.

Shape Note Singing!
Shape Note Singing!
May 12, 2025 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Shape note singing is a social, community singing tradition. We sing from The Sacred Harp and The Shenandoah Harmony, music books printed with shaped note heads designed to teach vocal, sight singing. This music is characterized by open harmonies and a raw, powerful sound that is sung in unaccompanied, four-part harmony. All religious affiliations (and un-affiliations) are welcome. We sing for each other and the joy of singing. This is music for participation, rather than performance.
